Vanakkam !!
The South Indian ethos for welcome and greeting.
And presenting to you the early morning vista of the Vivekananda Rock
and the grand statue of Swami Thiruvalluvar. This is around 8 in the
morning. I got closer to it, through narrow by-lanes, full of multiple
curio shops and object des arts.
… and I am back in the room, having started at 5 am and driven some
kilometers to the location, completed my meeting finished work for the
early part of the day. Quick, efficient, punctual, well planned… work
eases out smoothly.
We wait for the sun to gain some strength and to get back again to
yesterday’s location for meeting. Lunch was ready so I can feed
myself. I shall utilize this time to write to friends of course.
Kanya Kumari !! Above ! In all its beauty. In all its pristine
quality. In all its manifestations at the hands of civilization. The
imagery, is at the hotel. Murals that adorn several walls and on the
lawns of this picturesque locale.
The bare rocks scattering into the sea, with the sun emerging out of
the clouds is awesome. A tall thin image of the Virgin Mary can
be seen in isolation on one of the rocks, distantly. On another image is
the gigantic monument of a figure in dark stone. This is the statue of
the famous and renowned poet thinker and patriot Bharathi. Just behind
which is visible a structure. This is the Vivekananda Rock, where the
great philosopher sat and meditated. Further to the left and hidden
behind foliage is a mosque. Such a wonderful amalgamation and
integration of all the religions. A symbol of our secular constitution.
The area around the edge of the mainland, where the Rock stands is
now crowded with commerce. Shops and advertisements and conveniences for
the tourist or visitor. One wishes it could have been left in its
original striking form. But I guess civilization has its needs and these
get incorporated. Its no different in any other part of the world.
Whether in Italy or in France, the same atmosphere exists around some of
the most prominent marvels of the world.
There were some wonderful tools in iPhoto to enhance the pictures. So
I went there and did a bit of jiggery-pokery to make the snaps a bit
more attractive.
